The Healing Tree

The Healing Tree

Bark from the Chinchona Tree is harvested and steeped to extract quinine which historically has been used for medicinal purposes, most notably to treat Malaria.

Modern practices of harvesting the bark require a partnership with the tree. Instead of cutting it down to remove the bark, strips are carefully removed from the trunk which is then bandaged so the tree itself can heal.
